Everything You Need to Know About Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar– it’s a hot topic lately. Today, we’re going to talk about the benefits of drinking it, give you some suggestions on ways to drink it and even how to make your own!

Apple cider vinegar (or ACV for short) has been used a remedy for a number of ailments since around 5000 BC! It is made from apple cider that has undergone fermentation to form probiotics and enzymes. This combination has benefits that can:

• regulate blood sugar levels

• enhance weight loss efforts • lower cholesterol

• reduce blood pressure

• relieve symptoms of acid reflux

Other uses for ACV include:

1. Boosting gut health- The bacteria in ACV can enhance the health of your digestive system and increase the good bacteria in your gut.

2. Soothes sunburn- Add a cup of apple cider vinegar, plus ¼ cup coconut oil and some lavender essential oil to a lukewarm bath to provide sunburn relief.

3. Fights fungus- Fungal infections such as athletes foot or toenail fungus can be treated with ACV. Combine 2 ounces pure aloe vera gel, 1 oz. jojoba oil, 1/2 oz. olive oil, 1/2 oz. apple cider vinegar, 10 drops lavender pure essential oil, 2 drops of peppermint pure essential oil (optional), 10 drops chamomile oil and ½ ounce witch hazel in a 5 oz. spray bottle, blend well and store in refrigerator.

4. Improve skin health- ACV can be used in the treatment of acne and may help reduce scarring. Make an apple cider vinegar toner by combining 1-part ACV to 4-parts filtered water. Be careful to avoid your eyes when using.

5. Treats warts- You can get rid of a wart by soaking a cotton ball in ACV, applying it directly to a wart and covering it with a bandage overnight. Repeat until the wart is gone.

6. Can ward off seasonal allergies- The healthy bacteria in AVC may promote immunity and support healthy lymphatic drainage.

7. Can be used as a household cleaner- Equal parts ACV and water create the easiest and most effective cleaners due to it’s antibacterial properties.

8. Aids in detox- AVC can help balance your pH, encourage lymphatic drainage and enhance circulation.

There is a wide variety of how people feel about the flavor of ACV. Some love it, some find it bearable, and some cannot stand it! Here are a few delicious ways to get your AVC in, while disguising the taste!

Apple Cinnamon Fizz

1 tbsp. organic, raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar

½ tsp. ground cinnamon

1 cup sparkling water

1 cinnamon stick (optional)

Strawberry Vanilla Apple Cooler

1 tbsp. organic, raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar

5 medium strawberries, coarsely chopped

1 tsp. pure vanilla extract

1 cup cold water

Spicy Pear and Cayenne Jolt

1 tbsp. organic, raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar

¼ tsp. cayenne pepper

½ medium pear, coarsely chopped

1 cup cold water

Mint Blueberry Spritz

1 tbsp. organic, raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar

1/3 cup frozen blueberries, semi-thawed

4 or 5 fresh mint leaves

1 cup sparkling water

Mandarin Orange and Ginger Sunrise

1 tbsp. organic, raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar 1 tsp. honey

1 tsp. fresh ginger root

½ mandarin orange

1 cup cold water

Keep in mind, that despite all of the health benefits of ACV, there is a such thing as too much of a good thing. Consuming too much apple cider vinegar can lead to digestion complications due to acid it contains. It can also lead to the erosion of tooth enamel, so make sure it is always diluted. There is also the possibility that ACV may interact with certain diabetes medications, so make sure to always consult with a physician before starting a daily routine. Keep your consumption limited to one to two tablespoons per day.
