The Family Who GOLOs Together, Loses Together (and Stays Together)

I want to start off by saying that I was asked to write this post because my family and I are in a unique position of doing this all together and are at the beginning stages of our journey to lose weight. The information that is provided is very personal and I was reluctant at first to disclose this aspect of our lives, however after discussing it with my husband, we feel that it is important for the reader to know this information to understand how really unique our situation is. We are a family of 5, myself (the wife and mother), my husband, 19-year-old daughter, 15-year-old daughter and 8…

Her courage and determination helped transform her life. “I walked into a doctor’s office to get my knees checked, and the first thing out of his mouth was that I needed to lose weight…

    Guest Blog- My GOLO Journey

MThis is my GOLO story so far………. So, I was always a big girl. After I had kids it just never came off. I always said oh it is baby fat it will fall off eventually but nope it just kept on coming on. I suffer from anxiety and depression so I don’t really think that helped much with my weight problems. When my oldest son was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy I was thrown into a horrible depression. All I wanted to do was lay around, eat. and feel sorry for myself.  When you hear your only child has a life-threatening disease there is no cure for you kind…

    Guest Blog- Stairs to Success

SThere’s no shortcut to success—sometimes you just have to take the stairs. That’s what happened to Karen, an operating room caregiver, after receiving an emergency call two floors above her. When the entire team took off, she was forced to stand by the elevator. As her health declined over the years, she could no longer run up the stairs. “My clothes, my body, my attitude, and my ability to take the stairs—these things told me all I needed to know. After years of scales and weigh-ins and all that, it was more than enough.” She started GOLO in December 2018, not as a New Year’s resolution, but as her last…

There are a variety of different styles of yoga a person can practice. One of the most well-known yoga teachers, T. K. V. Desikachar, said “It is not that the person needs to accommodate him or herself to yoga, but rather the yoga practice must be…

    The Healthiest Bread Choices

We get a lot of questions about bread here at GOLO. Many people assume that since they are trying to lose weight, that they cannot have it and that is simply not the case. When looking for a good, healthy bread, you really want to focus on the ingredients. It does not take a lot of ingredients to make bread, but most store-bought breads have laundry lists of unnecessary ingredients and added sugar. One of the ingredients you want to avoid is dough conditioners. They are completely unnecessary and are only used to make the process faster for companies to make bread in big machinery. These conditioners contain azodicarbonamide (which…

    Real vs. Fake Bone Broth

Bone Broth – What is it and should I use it? You may have heard the hype about bone broth lately as it has been getting lots of media attention. You might have been inclined to try it, or have even started using it regularly. But are you getting the true version with all the health benefits or the commercial version that may not be as good for you? Real, traditional bone broth is made by slow simmering bones to extract amino acids, collagen and minerals into the broth. It has a sort of gelatin-like texture to it when refrigerated, and cannot be stored at room temperature because there are…

    What are clean ingredients?

A frequent term you may hear from the GOLO staff is “clean ingredients.” What exactly does this mean? A clean ingredient label is one that has the least amount of ingredients possible. It also means simple ingredients (ones that you can recognize and pronounce). There should be no highly processed ingredients AND the ingredients should be from natural sources. Don’t be fooled by a food product that states that it’s “natural,” because that food product could very well still be processed, which is why it is important to ALWAYS check your ingredients labels. The good news is that GOLO takes out the guesswork when it comes to clean ingredients. All…
